Black Humans Series

Each piece of this series is a representation of different versions of blackness. "The Talker" is a representation of a black activist. Time and time again, we see in the media how black people are treated and portrayed so poorly when advocating, speaking out and standing up for black rights in terms of race, gender and sexual preference. From being tear-gassed and shot at during protests to being called the "angry black women", black people have constantly endured physical, emotion and verbal abuse for standing up for ourselves or simply no reason at all. "The Listener" is about internalized racism. Internalized racism is the personal conscious or subconscious acceptance of the dominant society's racist views, stereotypes and biases of ones ethnic group. The piece is a representation of how stereotypes and racist views on black people can penetrate and corrupt the black mind.
